The Strait of Hormuz is a 33-kilometre-wide maritime jugular vein between Iran and Oman. Through it flows approximately one-fifth of the world’s entire supply of crude oil and liquefied natural gas – roughly 20 million barrels per day. Before the war began, about 82 percent of that oil was bound for Asia.
